Public Relations Account Coordinator

OVERVIEW

The Account Coordinator at Merritt Group is a detail-oriented problem-solver with excellent verbal, nonverbal and written communication skills. Account Coordinators exhibit extraordinary drive and ambition. S/he is flexible and is able to roll with the punches, while maintaining a sense of humor. Account Coordinators look for opportunities to self-educate and seek out new responsibilities across client teams and the agency in general. And, like all Merritt Groupers, s/he has an insatiable curiosity and interest in technology and business, social media and digital marketing.


KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Client Relations: Begin making contact with clients. Identify and respond to current and future client needs with the help of others on the team, and proactively monitor their respective industries for timely or relevant news angles, or competitive news pertaining to their offering. Develop an understanding of measurement tools and methodologies to better understand the progress of our strategic communications campaigns across paid, earned and owned channels.

  • Content Creation: Contribute to the writing of materials including press releases and blog posts, background materials, speaking abstracts, contributed articles, case studies and more. Write documents that are clear, compelling, grammatically correct, and typo free. Have the confidence to be creative with writing, and to make suggestions or revisions to existing content.

  • Media Relations: Develop an understanding of clientsí key media/analyst influencers; develop media/analyst lists, briefing backgrounders and other prep materials; draft coverage reports; pitch media to schedule interviews; coordinate logistical details for media briefings; evaluate editorial calendars for clients, compile and maintain opportunities lists.

  • Speaking & Awards: Research opportunities; draft award and speaking submissions; manage calendar of events; provide research to teams as needed.

  • Social Media: Have an understanding and willingness to learn about relevant social media channels for our clients; begin to draft social media content with oversight of more senior team member; begin to populate that content within social media channels with oversight of more senior team member.

  • Digital Marketing: Introduction to digital marketing methodologies, including online content strategy and development, multimedia and social media production and management, email communications, electronic database and content management, and web analytics. Learn best practices across various marketing channels.

  • Project Management: Introduction to methodologies and best practices within project management, including shadowing senior team members in the areas of project initiation, planning, execution, budgeting, software tools, and working across departments of the agency.

  • Agency Operations: Volunteer for projects as time warrants; research and bring new ideas to the teamís attention; develop an understanding of all social media platforms and relevant media outlets; and complete and submit accurate timesheets and monthly reports on time.

  • Client-Focused: Show a genuine interest in the consumer technology landscape and take the time to learn each clientís business and competitive landscape. Begin to have an active voice in client meetings. Is execution-oriented and meets or exceeds all deadlines.

  • Team Player: Provide support for every aspect of designated accounts and work closely with teammates to deliver exceptional results. Work well in a collaborative team environment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelorís degree

  • Up to one year of working experience, including internships


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Prior PR agency experience and/or internship

  • Degree in communications, journalism, public administration, English, or related field
